Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a way of chatting to people over the internet. IRC lets you join discussion channels where you and other people can talk about different topics. You can also create your own channels.
IRC at Saphyr
Saphyr provides an IRC service for use by everyone. It is mostly used by people who use our creations to chat to each other, but you can also find the developers and administrators of our different projects online on IRC much of the time.
Join the chat
If you are new to IRC, the easiest way to join the chat is to use our Webchat service.
If you use IRC a lot, it is easier to use an IRC client running on your own computer instead of the webchat. We recommend ChatZilla if you use the Firefox web browser, mIRC on Windows or Colloquy for Mac. There are many others available.
These are the details you need to know to connect using an IRC client:
- Server: irc.saphyr.co.uk
- Port: 6667
Notable Channels
#chat - Our main communal channel. If in doubt, go here!
#chat.tech - Technology related discussion -- computers, programming etc.
#evo - Discussion about the game Evolution.
To join a channel, for instance #chat.tech, type /join #chat.tech into your chat window.
